Screenshot detection

WhatsApp's new update will allow you to detect when someone has screenshotted your messages. The latest version lets you see who took a screenshot within a group chat (and read, but not necessarily see, what they were looking at). WhatsApp also lets users quickly delete old messages from groups or individuals through a 3-tap process. Check out more of these WhatsApp secrets—then head over and make sure all your settings are in place for protection.

Dark Mode

WhatsApp Messenger’s newest update, WhatsApp 2.18.69, lets you enable a dark mode on both Android and iOS for supported devices. It’s been a highly requested feature for a long time, but it’s finally here! To turn on dark mode just navigate to your settings, scroll down and look for Dark Mode under 'Display', which is right below Night Mode. Once enabled all of your conversations in WhatsApp will switch over to be darker and easier on your eyes when viewing at night. Be sure to go into settings and test it out! How do you like it? Let us know in the comments below!

One tap multimedia sharing

A WhatsApp trick you probably don’t know about is multimedia sharing—for photos, at least. Not only can you send multiple pictures one after another within a WhatsApp message, but you can also just tap once to send all of them at once. If a friend hasn’t opened it yet, they’ll be met with a notification. This is useful if you have lots of photos or videos that need to be shared right away and aren’t separated by anything specific.

End-to-end encryption

WhatsApp has added a new feature that allows users to set messages to disappear from both their own and their recipients’ phones after a certain amount of time has passed. Messages that use end-to-end encryption are nearly impossible for law enforcement agencies or hackers to intercept, so WhatsApp’s latest update is an easy way for people to send messages with total confidence in privacy. Here’s how it works: Open WhatsApp on your phone and navigate to Settings>Account>Security, where you should see a Disappearing Messages option. Once you select it, enter a time period (1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day) during which time your message will be deleted from both devices.

Sending audio files

In addition to pictures, text, and contacts, you can send audio files on WhatsApp. This can be extremely useful if you want to communicate with someone without forcing them to type or read. Just press and hold down on a contact’s name from your phone’s WhatsApp list; then select Audio. From here, use your phone’s microphone (or headset) button to record whatever message you want, then send it off for delivery via WhatsApp Messenger.

Reporting spam users

If someone is bothering you with messages and they are breaking WhatsApp’s Terms of Service, report them. That way their message will be flagged and they will not be able to contact you or anyone else on WhatsApp for a limited amount of time. If someone is repeatedly in violation of WhatsApp’s terms and policies, WhatsApp has stated that it can ban people from using its service completely. In order for a user to be banned from using WhatsApp, there must be three violations over a span of 180 days.

Stickers in chats

Everyone loves stickers, and now they can be used in groups as well. Simply tap a sticker when writing a message—it’ll resize and make room for more text. Scroll through your sticker collection, select a sticker, then add it to your message. Multiple stickers will even stack on top of each other so you can get creative with them.

Unlock forgotten password

One cool WhatsApp trick is that you can set your password to a question so you don’t forget it. In case you do forget, WhatsApp will helpfully answer your security question by sending a message through (you just have to hope they remember their password!)! I know, super secure... ????

Delete chat threads remotely

Here’s a weird WhatsApp trick that allows you to delete chat threads remotely. For starters, you need at least two Android phones with WhatsApp installed. Next, both of these devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network and they must have each other added as contacts. Afterward, open WhatsApp on one of your phones and go into a chat thread on which you want to delete all messages. Then, tap and hold on any message in that thread for about five seconds until all messages start blinking red. At last, tap Delete for Everyone in order to remove all messages from your conversation history.

Private replies

You can respond privately to a message, meaning your conversation won’t appear in your contact’s chat list. To do so, tap on three dots that appear at the top-right of your screen when you get a message. From there, tap on reply privately. Your contact will then receive a notification saying you responded privately.

Transfer contacts from other devices

If you want to switch from Android or iPhone, for example, make sure you back up your contacts and then transfer them onto your new device. This is a good step no matter which platform you’re switching from or onto.

WhatsApp Payments feature

With WhatsApp Payments, you can transfer money right within a chat. Even if your recipient doesn’t have a debit card or bank account, they can receive money and send it back—to someone else or right back to you. Paying friends is simple, convenient, and secure in just three taps. Whether it’s splitting a check at dinner or planning for a trip abroad, you can use WhatsApp Payments to help with those everyday expenses that come up from time-to-time.
